The Pinacoteca Comunale of Città di Castello is the main Picture Gallery or museum of paintings and arts prior to the 20th century in the town of Città di Castello, Province of Perugia, Region of Umbria, in Italy. ==History== The collection was assembled in 1912 by Elia Volpi, a known painter and restorer, who donated to the comune the Renaissance style Palazzo Vitelli alla Cannoniera, as a museum site. The palace was once adjacent to a cannon foundry, hence the name. The building had monochrome facade frescoes painted by Cristofano Gherardi based on designs of Giorgio Vasari. The interior stairwell frescoes are attributed to Gherardi and Cola dell'Amatrici. Among the featured works are the ''Standard of the Holiest Trinity'' (circa 1503) by Raphael, a ''Martyrdom of St Sebastian'' (1497–98) from the church of San Domenico by Luca Signorelli, and an ''Enthroned Madonna and Child with Six Angels'' by the Master of the Città di Castello, a follower of Duccio di Boninsegna.〔(Citta di Castello Tourism website. )〕 It also has works by Spinello Aretino, Giorgio di Andrea di Bartolo, Antonio Alberti of Ferrara, Neri di Bicci, Antonio Vivarini, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Andrea Della Robbia, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Antonio Vivarini, Raffaellino del Colle, Santi di Tito, and Pomarancio.
